Your body will change when it is ready to. Everyone goes through puberty at different times so don't worry if other lads are getting there quicker than you. It's perfectly normal.
You may have your own ideas about what gay men are supposed to look like - from characters on television to gay men you see in the media. Most of the time gay men are stereotyped as being camp and effeminate but there are lots of different types of gay men, just as there are straight men! It's important to know that gay men are everywhere, don't feel like you have to dress or look a certain way. Just be yourself.
The media can be very deceptive. Don't strive to be someone that you aren't. Celebrities and models have a team of people working on making them look good. It is not realistic to look good all the time. Stay focused on bringing out your best qualities - including personality traits.
If you are unhappy with your weight, don’t starve yourself. If you are going to change your diet always check with your GP first to ensure that you are doing what is best for you.
Exercise does not have to be intense or back-breaking, 30 minutes of exercise five days per week is the recommended amount. It is also important to have some time to relax as well. Remember to be realistic and try getting into a routine that suits your everyday life.
One thing that seems to plague all young men at some point is acne. The reason people get spots is because their pores get clogged up with sebum. Sebum is something your skin produces to protect itself, but during puberty the increased levels of testosterone in your body cause too much to be released. It can then mix with dead skin cells and cause spots.
It is not the end of the world though – most people can keep spots under control with a facial wash to suit their skin - your local pharmacy will be able to help you decide which product will work best for you. Getting into a routine of cleansing and moisturising your skin will help to clear pores and reduce spots.
If you develop inflammatory acne, a painful condition where your skin becomes red and swollen up as well as spotty, see your GP as you may need to be prescribed a treatment for it.
