Coming Out

Coming out as gay or bisexual can be very daunting and something that you may feel ready for now or maybe you want more information about how others have done it.

Are you ready?

Have you tried saying “I’m Gay” out loud to yourself? Just practising saying the words can be really useful, working out how you are going to say it. If you find that you can’t say the words out loud then maybe you should take a bit more time to think about how comfortable you are with your sexuality.  If people think you are confused about your sexuality they may not take you seriously or try their hardest to change your mind. So make sure that YOU accept your sexuality yourself before going any further.

Have a look through the following pages on the website and read other young men’s stories. This may help you work out what you want to say or give you some ideas on where to start. Maybe you could think about checking what your friends/ family attitudes are to gay men - think about stories in the press or on TV that you might be able to bring into a conversation. This is an excellent way of finding out what people’s attitudes are if you don’t know already.
