Meeting people
Meeting another gay man or going to a group for the first time can be daunting, either because you feel nervous, or because you have ideas about what gay men are like. Gay men are everywhere and it is likely that you will already have met some but just not known they were gay.
One of the best ways to meet people and get support is by going to a gay youth group. Most groups are aimed at 13 –19 year olds and are run by youth workers who will be able to give you information on a range of topics. If you feel nervous about going for the first time a worker might suggest meeting up first to answer any questions you have.
There is a huge amount of information on the internet for gay people, some of it is useful, a lot of it isn’t. Try searching for 'gay youth groups UK' or use our links page as a starting point.
Some sites have message boards or chatrooms. Make sure you look after yourself though - some people use these sites to exploit the inexperienced. Check out some internet tips here.
