Meeting people

Meeting another gay man or group for the first time can be very daunting either because you may be very nervous or you might have certain ideas about what gay men are like.Gay men are everywhere and it is more than likely that you will already have met loads of gay guys but just not known they were gay.

One of the best ways to meet people and get support is by going along to a local gay youth group. These groups meet all over the country (check the listings page for groups in your area). Most groups are aimed at 13 –19 yr olds and are run by youth workers who will be able to give you information on a wide range of topics. If you are nervous about going for the first time, a worker might suggest meeting up first to answer any concerns you might have.

There is a huge amount of gay information on the web (see links page) some of it is useful, a lot isn’t. Try searching for “gay youth groups uk”.

Most sites have a message board or chatroom facility. Make sure you look after yourself though - some people use these sites to exploit the inexperienced. Check out some internet tips here.
